Science and Technology is offered from grades 7 – 9 in both French and English, depending on the program that you choose. In grade 10, General Science and Environmental Science are offered.  You can then choose to take Chemistry and Physics in grade 11.  BHS has an excellent science program!

Yes, the clubs are mixed grades. The majority of sports are organized so that students are separated between bantam (grades 7-8), midget (grades 9-10) and juvey (grade 11). Some sports like the clubs are mixed grades. Joining clubs and sports are great ways to meet new friends and to make connections with other students throughout the school.

The school is a English school but we offer different levels of French. From grade 7-9 you will be grouped into Base, Immersion, Enriched and Defi. In each level there is a difference in the difficulty of French and other classes.

BHS offers a whole bunch of different sports. We offer soccer, cross country running, golf, softball, volleyball, swimming, basketball, hockey, curling, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, badminton, flag football, rugby and lacrosse. All of our sports have boys and girls teams. If you want to play a sport that isn’t already offered, you can ask a teacher to coach and gather a group of students who would be interested as well.

Yes, we have a great badminton team for both boys and girls. Each gender has bantam, midget and juvey teams.

BHS has a dress code; please refer to our Code of Respect for details.

The amount of homework depends on a lot of different factors. Your teacher, your work ethic, your grades as well as your understanding of the material. If you keep up with your work on average it should only take 30 minutes to 3 hours.  I would imagine that this is similar throughout all high schools.

Thank you for your interest in BHS…that’s what we love to hear!  We have a promotional video on our homepage which gives a short summary of BHS. We invite you to like our FB page as well as our Instagram page to feel the heartbeat of our school!

If you keep up with your work in class and at home, the homework shouldn’t be too difficult, but you do have to stay on task or it may become more challenging. There are always people at BHS to support you. We have an amazing Resource department and excellent teachers.

There are many different forms of art that are taught in the Visual Arts class, such as painting, drawing and sculpting, but the variety and manner in which they are taught depends on the teacher. We offer many sports at BHS, including basketball. The amount of work per day depends on your understanding of the material, the subject matter, the teacher and your work ethic. Keeping on top of your homework is important, so that you have an average of 30 minutes to 3 hours per day, which is similar to other high schools.

The administration with the help of the teachers, try to place the students in the programs that they have requested and where they are best suited.  Most often, students remain in the same program for the entire year, but there are always exceptions. Just like in elementary school, there are courses that you are required to take, you must stay registered in the courses for the year, but don’t worry, there will be support for you should you need it.

No. All students have an equal and unbiased chance at being admitted to the Enriched Program. Acceptance will be based on Entrance Exam performance and Report Card marks.

During the first day, all teachers will individually hand out supply lists along with course outlines.

She will have to write the entrance exam that is being given and based on her results and her report card, she will be placed accordingly. If her French is strong, the likelihood of her being admitted into défi français is very good.  The program is enriched in all areas however, so admittance will be based on the criteria listed above.
